EPL is looking for an administrative specialist to join the Pathology Support team in our Durham, NC office. As an administrative specialist, you will join a work environment that encourages teamwork, quality and offers opportunities for personal growth. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the histopathology data reporting of EPL Pathologists, for both commercial studies and the National Toxicology Program (NTP) contract. This administrative specialist will work within the framework established by US and international Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations and facility Standard of Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Prepare typed rough draft(s) from handwritten draft(s) (pathology reports, project sheets, proposals, in-house correspondence)
- Understand the Statement of Work: National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Archives and Specimen Repository and the Specifications for the Conduct of Studies to Evaluate the Toxic and Carcinogenic Potential of Chemical, Biological, and Physical Agents in Laboratory Animals for the NTP
- Provide support for work requests associated with the Pathology Peer Review Contract
- Greet, screen, and direct visitors and/or vendors. Alert appropriate personnel
- Assign visitors badge (s) and appropriately log visit information
- Answer and transfer/overhead page telephone calls as appropriate
Other Responsibilities (as applicable):
- Identify, and pull histology tissue slides as needed for pathologists
- Assist the organization of Pathology Working Group documents
- Assist in air and ground courier shipping and postal mailing
- Inventory and document the incoming and outgoing pathology study materials
- Proof transcribed pathology data reports
- File and retrieve study records and correspondences
- Perform quality checks (QC) on post-peer-review pathology data
- Become familiar with the workflow of the unit, both facets: EPL and NTP Archives
Position Requirements:
- High School Graduate or equivalent plus 5-7 years of relevant experience
- Robust knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel & Word) and Adobe Acrobat
- Successfully complete EPL’s Tissue Identification course once hired
- Ability to pay close attention to details
- Understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Work efficiently alone and/or as a member of a team
- Ability to adapt to changing procedures, priorities, and tasks
- Intermediate knowledge of histology and/or medical terminology
