Position Summary
The Math Interventionist will provide targeted support to students who need additional assistance in mathematics. The Math Interventionist will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and families to implement data-driven interventions and instructional strategies that promote student success in math.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized and small-group math instruction to students requiring intervention.
- Use diagnostic assessments and data analysis to identify students in need of support and track their progress.
- Develop and implement research-based math intervention strategies tailored to students' needs.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to align interventions with curriculum and best instructional practices.
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instructional approaches as necessary.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates and strategies for supporting math learning at home.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed of best practices in math intervention.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on student progress as required.
- Foster a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages mathematical confidence and problem-solving skills.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience working with elementary-aged students in a math-focused role.
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based math intervention strategies and instructional techniques.
- Familiarity with assessment tools such as i-Ready, NWEA MAP, or other math screening tools.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to educational equity and supporting diverse learners.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to accurately collect data
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents/guardians.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation and self-reflection regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Certification
- Valid NYS teaching certification preferred
Experience
- Prior experience with high need students in an urban setting prioritized
- Experience working with a culturally and ethnically diverse population is strongly desired.
