Position Summary
Legal research and writing on new and changing employment laws and regulations affecting Express, with analysis regarding required changes in the policies and procedures of Express. Creation of communications, resources, and training materials. Knowledge of temporary staffing model and employment law required, understanding of Express processes preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Researches changes in labor and employment law and regulations via legal sources such as applicable statutes, judicial decisions, and codes.
- Compiles current policies, procedures and forms by working with extra-departmental sources.
- Prepares written analysis reports including summary of new or changed law and impact on existing process.
- Writes communications including blog articles.
- Creates and presents trainings and resource materials.
- Oversees programs, such as minimum wage.
- Maintains database and documentation of review activity.
- Regularly reviews legal publications and news sources for potential new and changing law and regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
- Serves as a secondary point of contact for incoming inquiries, requiring prompt responses with either accurate information or referral to appropriate subject-matter expert.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Paralegal certification or 5 years of experience in legal research and writing.
- Employment law experience or commensurate experience in Human Resources.
- Experience with a franchising model and/or temporary staffing business preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in Westlaw and similar legal research databases.
- Possess excellent written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and document management systems and ability to edit and proofread correspondence and legal documents.
- Case management software experience a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and good work ethic are essential.
- Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment working within time constraints.
Physical Requirements:
- Sedentary to light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
- Ability to view computer screen, sit, stand or walk for long periods of time
- Ability to operate a computer, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment
Working Conditions:
- Ability to produce quality work in fast paced environment with high daily pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to work non-standard work hours as needed or required to meet established deadlines
- Ability to work indoors, in an office environment, regardless of whether cubicle, open office or private office
- Subject to normal office noise levels
- Minimal to no travel required
- Position is located at Express Employment International Headquarters in Oklahoma City, currently with a hybrid schedule (4 days in office, 1 day remote)
