Job Description
The Database Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining database solutions that meet business needs and follow architectural standards. The Database Engineer works closely with the Database Architects, Administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure the stability, quality, performance, and security of the database systems. The Database Engineer also provides technical guidance, project management, and escalation support for associated technologies.
Responsibilities
- Provides input on design and standards for database solutions based on business requirements and best practices.
- Implements solutions based on architectural design documentation and standards, using various database technologies and tools.
- Helps Architects evaluate solutions and provide feedback on feasibility, scalability, and compatibility of database systems.
- Provides feedback on updates that need to be performed on design documentation to reflect the changes and enhancements of database solutions.
- Manages technical aspects of projects with input from the team and requires little escalation assistance.
- Assists Administrators with some upgrades and migrations of database systems and ensures smooth transition and minimal downtime.
- Provides escalation support for associated technologies, such as data integration, data warehousing, data analytics, and data security for both internal and 3rd party business applications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in database development, administration, or engineering.
- Proficient in SQL, SQL Server, Azure SQLDB, and one or more of the following database platforms: Oracle, Azure MI, Cosmos, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.
- Knowledge of database design principles, data modeling, normalization, and optimization techniques.
- Experience in database performance tuning, backup and recovery, security, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with data integration, data warehousing, data analytics, and data security tools and technologies.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following technologies: PowerShell, Ola Hallengren, SQL Sentry (or equivalent), SQL Blitz, Power BI.
