PURPOSE
Responsible for general network design, implementation, configuration, documentation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Participation in group projects and project management includes coordination, prioritization and QA of network setup and other system administration tasks. Works closely with systems technicians, systems administrators, and telecommunication support staff on implementation of systems as well as ongoing maintenance and diagnostics. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Presents high level network solutions for LAN and WAN network additions and changes.
- Prepares and configures network equipment for implementation of network additions and changes.
- Configures network security parameters on various network appliances including routers, firewalls, switches, logging devices, anti-spy-ware systems, spam prevention, virus protection, intrusion detection, web filtering, etc.
- Works with department managers and purchasers on recommendations for new equipment and maintenance cycles.
- Contacts vendors for network equipment quotes and maintenance quotes.
- Reports and communicates network malfunctions, outages, etc. to vendors and service providers as necessary.
- Participates in analysis of network traffic to identify bandwidth shortfalls, traffic issues, security violations, etc.
- Keeps network facets of disaster recovery operational, as well as keep disaster recovery and business continuity documentation current.
- Mentors and coaches other network administration and support staff on usage of tools and on methodologies and networking technologies.
- Maintains network documentation, charts, diagrams, recovery procedures, automatic failover implementations, manual failover processes.
- Investigates new techniques, equipment, and processing methods and evaluates technical requirements for hardware & software.
- Recommends hardware/software solutions for short-range problems, and to support long range technology planning.
- Maintains awareness of Network Security concepts and best practices
- Stays abreast of and complies with company/department policies regarding computer systems & processes.
- Interacts with customers at a technical and support level and provides user support including problem diagnosis & resolutions.
- Provides an escalation level to team to assist with complex network problems/solutions.
- Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
- Practices regular and dependable attendance.
- Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on ARC SharePoint.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follows established operations procedures to ensure timely resolution or escalation of issues.
- Works effectively in a team environment to monitor, resolve, and escalate technical issues and document solutions.
- Participates in Network on call rotation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least three (3) years of experience in the Network Information Technology field.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in computer-related technology.
Certificate/License: Cisco certification (CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP or CCIE) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Windows operating systems, and related utilities.
- Understanding of routing protocols, policy routing, ATM, Frame Relay, QoS, TCP/IP protocols, firewalls, switching technology, VLANs.
- Strong written and oral communication and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and balancing competing priorities.
- Ability to communicate technical issues with technical and non-technical people.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
