Information about the role
This position resides within the Marketing Communications office (MARCOM) Audience Engagement division and is responsible for leading development and execution of the Museum’s social media strategy. As the leader of the Social Media branch of Audience Engagement, this position is responsible for the combined organic and paid insights-driven strategic planning and execution—encompassing creative concept development, production oversight, cross-platform delivery, and performance analytics—while ensuring alignment with the Museum's mission, goals, and priority audiences. The Deputy Director will supervise a unified social team, and will serve as a member of MARCOM’s Leadership Team.
This is a full-time donated position (non-Federal) paid with the Museum’s private funds. Salary is commensurate with experience.
The position is remote work eligible, with working hours aligned to the Eastern Time Zone (EST).
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum will provide remote employees equipment based on organization policy, and each employee’s individual role and responsibilities.
Duties, and Responsibilities for the role
- Develop and execute the Museum’s comprehensive social media strategy, crafting and implementing strategies across multiple platforms to drive awareness and enhance audience engagement through a blend of creative vision and data-driven decision-making.
- Lead and provide direction to the social media team and dotted line reports, including social media managers, strategists, specialists, and designers. Provide expert knowledge of the social landscape, platform native technologies and evolving audience behaviors to help shape the creation and distribution of organic and paid content across the Museum’s social channels.
- Supervise and provide on-going oversight of the work of Social Media Managers (2 staff members) and contractors. This includes annual goals, reviews and professional development for staff.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to implement the Museum’s social media content strategy, facilitate trainings, create actionable plans, and transform strategic recommendations into effective deliverables.
- Designs and implements a robust social media testing framework to measure progress against strategic goals, establishing methodologies for testing, audience segmentation, and performance benchmarking to continuously optimize content effectiveness and engagement
- Oversee the entire social media content lifecycle: from strategic planning and creative concept development to production execution and cross-platform delivery, ensuring alignment with the Museum’s mission, goals, and audience engagement.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications for the role
- 10 years of experience working in social media, digital advertising, or marketing as a strategist
- 5 years leading and directing combined social media organic and paid teams. This includes supervisory experience and leading cross-functional teams through developing integrated, unified approaches that advance the understanding, intersection and deployment of organic and paid, oversees the creation and execution of content strategy and delivers on awareness and engagement goals.
- Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience with end-to-end social media content lifecycles, from strategic planning and creative concept development to production execution and cross-platform delivery for media organizations, nonprofits, museums, or cultural institutions.
- Demonstrated success in overseeing comprehensive social media campaigns, including strategic planning, platform-specific content development, and multichannel organic and paid distribution across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube.
- Proven experience in developing video and audio content strategies for social media content, providing platform-specific direction and oversight from concept through completion.
- Fluency in data and analytics, and how data informs strategies and optimizations
- Exceptional writing and communication skills, with a proven track record of leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams focused on digital content production.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in marketing, communications, or a related field or equivalent work experience
Preferred Qualifications for the role
- Proven leadership abilities with a strong background in recruiting, motivating, and growing a team of specialized professionals.
- Fluency with social media publishing and social listening tools, such as Sprout Social, Cyabra, and Respondology.
- Experience marketing to and knowledge of teen audiences and their social media behaviors.
