What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Specialist, Financial Planning & Analysis position at EXTERNAL?
SUMMARY The Senior Specialist, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) works closely with the FP&A Director in supporting the financial planning activities of the organization including budget, month end and variance analysis processes. The Senior Specialist, FP&A will support SHRM’s leadership as well as other business partners by providing first class financial management and analysis services such as but not limited to, operating financial planning models, key performance indicators (KPIs), and Margin reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage and maintain department budgets, rolling forecasts, and cost-benefit analyses aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
Take ownership of the membership revenue model (subscription-based), ensuring accurate forecasting, budgeting, and performance tracking.
Partner with business owners to ensure projections reflect current business trends and initiatives.
Oversee and optimize the implementation and use of Workday Adaptive Planning to streamline budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and planning processes.
Support the Director of FP&A in developing the annual budget, adhering to timelines set by the CFO and Board of Directors.
Contribute to the comparative margin report, incorporating budget data and prior year comparisons.
Prepare journal entries, reclassifications, and related tasks for the monthly close process.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSEducation:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in Finance, Accounting, or business operations.
Proven experience in budget creation, financial reporting, and operations analytics.
Strong background in revenue management, including forecasting, budgeting, and performance tracking, experience with subscription-based or membership revenue models is a plus.
Experience in for-profit organizations or associations is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Excellent analytical aptitude with a proven ability to analyze/interpret data, including financial statements.
Strong ability to multi-task and adhere to tight deadlines.
Proven expertise in utilizing Workday Adaptive Planning for budgeting, forecasting and financial modeling.
Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
Advanced Microsoft Office software applications skills—MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and build consensus across teams and various levels of management.
Commitment to high standards, customer service, integrity, and ethics.
Self-motivated, with a sense of autonomy, initiative, and responsibility.
Experience with financial software NetSuite preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENTHybrid Position (3 Days In-Office, 2 Days Remote):
This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office presence [three days per week] and remote work [two days per week]. Core work hours will be designated by the department. The office environment includes a standard workstation setup with collaborative spaces, while remote work requires a reliable high-speed internet connection and a suitable home workspace. Employees must maintain availability during standard business hours and adhere to company policies for both in-office and remote work.

The hiring range for this position is $75,000 to $98,000 per year. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
