Position Overview: The Certified Ophthalmic Technician - Retina Photographer plays a critical role in providing advanced diagnostic support and exceptional patient care within an ophthalmology practice, specifically focusing on retinal conditions. This position combines clinical expertise in ophthalmology with technical proficiency in imaging to assist in diagnosing and monitoring retinal diseases. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high-quality care to patients.
Responsibilities:
- Taking patient medical histories.
- Instructing patients about medications, tests, and procedures.
- Performing vision and diagnostic tests.
- Assisting with patient procedures.
- Administering topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
- Technical Skills:
- Performing advanced ophthalmic procedures.
- Preparing the operating room prior to surgery.
- Promoting the safety of and caring for the patient during surgery.
- Aiding the practicing surgeon.
- Caring for instruments and supplies used in surgery.
Administrative and Supervisory:
- Coordinating patient scheduling.
- Supervising and training other allied ophthalmic personnel (e.g., COAs and COTs).
- Performing office management duties.
- Accurately recording information in the EMR system.
Other Duties:
- Assisting in training other ophthalmic assistants.
- Ensuring proper informed consent is obtained for procedures.
- Setting up and cleaning up procedures.
- Checking the condition of patients' eyes by observing pupils, muscle, visual acuity, extraocular movements, and blood pressure (if requested by Physician).
Qualifications:
- Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist
- Fluorescein Angiography
