Surgery Scheduler Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and organized Surgery Scheduler to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures, ensuring that all necessary information is collected and communicated effectively. This candidate will provide education of surgery issues, preparation of documents for ASCs and Hospitals, certain measurements, and discussions with cataract surgery candidates. Additional administrative functions for the doctor including, but not limited to research, general calendar management, and inter office communications.This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and scheduling systems, as well as adherence to HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Schedule surgical procedures in a timely manner while considering the availability of surgeons, operating rooms, and patients.
- Assure all appropriate consents and financial responsibility documents are signed and in place, including any required ABNs or notices of non covered event.
- Review and order all appropriate lenses for appropriate surgeries.
- Copy and compile pre-op packets
- Write pre-ops
- Order IOL’s and fax to the Hospital
- Acquaint all new patients with office procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how the patient will be affected during the tests.
- Performs accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their surgery dates, pre-operative instructions, and any necessary preparations.
- Maintain accurate records of scheduled surgeries and update the system as needed.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure all required documentation is complete prior to surgery.
- Handle inquiries from patients and medical staff regarding scheduling issues or changes.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations in all interactions with patients and handling of sensitive information.
Experience
- Previous experience in a clinical or office setting is preferred, particularly in roles such as medical scheduling.
- Proficiency in clerical tasks including 10 key typing skills to ensure efficient data entry.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact professionally with patients and healthcare providers.
