Job Summary
We are seeking an Optician to join our team! As an Optician, you will speak with patients to learn about their lifestyle and needs, take facial measurements, and help them pick out eyewear and contact lenses based on their specific requirements. You will also help them learn about their new products, explain pricing and insurance coverage, and follow all HIPPA and confidentiality regulations closely. The ideal candidate has exceptional customer service skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of an optometrist’s office.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses, ensuring a perfect balance of function and fashion.
- Take precise measurements for frame adjustments and ensure proper fitting of eyewear.
- Process lens orders, including edging, tinting, and assembly, using lab equipment.
- Perform quality checks to guarantee the accuracy and craftsmanship of completed eyewear.
- Provide lens recommendations, including coatings and materials, tailored to patients’ needs.
- Verify and dispense eyewear with exceptional attention to detail.
- Manage lab inventory, placing orders for lenses and supplies as needed.
- Troubleshoot and maintain lab equipment to ensure smooth operations.
- Address patient inquiries and resolve issues to ensure satisfaction.
- Collaborate with the optometry team to provide seamless and efficient patient care.
- Meet and talk with patients to learn their needs for eyewear
- Make suggestions on frames, and assist patients in choosing the best option for them
- Take facial measurements to ensure a perfect frame fit
- Prepare specific orders for the ophthalmic lab
- Explain pricing, insurance, and payment options to the patient thoroughly
- Operate under all HIPPA and confidentiality regulations
Qualifications
- Previous experience desired
- Strong understanding of HIPPA
- Strong customer service skills
- Proven experience as an optical lab technician, including lens edging, tinting, and assembly.
- Proficiency with optical lab equipment and software.
- Knowledge of VSP and other vision insurance billing processes.
- Strong technical understanding of lens materials and coatings.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask.
- Enthusiasm for creating a positive and professional patient experience.
