Job Summary:
We are an Optometry Office seeking a detail-oriented Optical Lab Technician to join our team. The Optical Lab Technician is responsible for crafting, repairing, and maintaining eyeglass lenses and frames. This is a hands-on role that requires precision, efficiency, and a strong commitment to quality. This role is crucial in providing exceptional customer support through the delivery of high-quality optical products and ensuring smooth daily operations in the optical lab. The ideal candidate will have previous optical lab manufacturing experience, knowledge of surfacing and finishing lab equipment, ability and skill to perform final inspection and quality checks, and be able to assist with lab administrative duties and maintenance. Ability to work efficiently and independently are skills that are essential for success in this position.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year minimum experience in an optical lab setting.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being self-motivated.
- Strong reliability and a track record of punctuality.
- Proficiency with typing, Microsoft Office, and general computer skills.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise.
- Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Familiarity with optical machinery and tools.
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate and maintain optical lab equipment, including lens edgers, polishers, and surfacing tools.
- Process lens orders, including edging, tinting, and assembly, using lab equipment.
- Perform quality checks to guarantee the accuracy and craftsmanship of completed eyewear.
- Cut, grind, and shape lenses to fit specific frames according to prescriptions.
- Inspect finished lenses and frames for quality, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards.
- Perform repairs and adjustments on eyewear as needed.
- Manage inventory of lab supplies and ensure a clean, organized workspace.
- Collaborate with optometrists and sales teams to meet customer needs and deadlines.
SENSORY, MOTOR REQUIREMENTS:
- Extensive use of computers.
- ·Ability to hear and speak clearly.
- Free to move about offices, practice locations.
- Able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Able to work in a loud or noisy environment.
