Position Title: Music Production Youth Educator
Location: In-person at partnering educational institutions and homeless shelters in the Washington, DC area.
Program & Job Description:
EYL 365 Project is looking for a qualified Music Production Youth Educators to work with students across a variety of programs. An ideal candidate will be experienced in teaching their respective art form and expertise to groups of children in a school and after-school setting. An ideal candidate is willing to work with the EYL team and schools’ administrations to help determine and design art programming that will best fit the needs of the school communities we serve.

EXPERIENCE NEEDED
- 3 years experience as a Youth Educator in their respective art form and expertise, ideally in DMV public schools
- Proficient Google Suite
- Strong Communication
- Hold a strong understanding of arts integration best practices and strategies.
- Focus on the intersection of the arts and Social Emotional Learning/Competencies.
- Possess strong collaboration skills with classroom teachers, other teaching artists, social workers, administrators, etc.
- Have experience lesson planning/creating curriculum for K-12 students.
- Open to feedback and continuous growth
- TA must be vaccinated and can provide proof upon request.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to teach in a hands-on, experiential learning style and inspire students to reach for higher-level outcomes
- Maintain a structured environment in the classroom that is conducive to learning
- Use open-ended question, allow for student choice , use appropriate encouragement techniques, and ensure that students are always engaged in the classroom
- Must demonstrate an understanding of DJ Mixing, Scratching, or Music Production, Beatmaking concepts and be able to communicate those concepts to students effectively
- Creating tracks, songs and recording
Must be able to receive constructive feedback on teaching techniques and apply the feedback to new teaching situations, and environments
Must demonstrate an understanding of music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts effectively to students
Must have an advanced understanding of music theory and technique relevant to primary instrument
- Effective time management and organizational skills to keep students on task in a lesson
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a variety of personalities
- Experienced performer
- Experience working with youth and/or beginning musicians
- Incorporate activities and experiences that develop creativity, techniques and confidence
- Demonstrate effective classroom management skills to maintain a structured, positive learning space
- Instruct students in performance & recording etiquette
- Collaborate with students
- Support in maintenance, upkeep and proper use of program equipment
- Interact professionally and appropriately with parents, teachers and after school staff
- Teaching Artists interact with school administrators and teachers and are responsible for all daily program goals.
- Implement EYL 365 Project arts integrated curriculum and or create lessons to support social and emotional development through music instruction
- Must have reliable transportation'
- Experienced at guiding students to full-scale culminating presentations
- Allow students to “share out” what they have learned and reflect on their learning at each workshop
- Plan and establish a safe learning environment for all participants and artists
- Participate in pre-plan and post-planning meetings with co-teaching artists, US staff, and or mentors
- Document workshop agenda and successes and challenges for each session and share with Administrative staff
- Report weekly with Administrative staff any workshop concerns including lessons, learning, attendance, and facility issues
- Adhere to EYL 365 Project guidelines & policies and to those of the facility, reporting any incidents or problems as outlined to EYL 365 Project leadership and school or camp management
- Be a positive role model to students, school staff and fellow Teaching Artists
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Work well with people in various communities, institutional and governmental organizations
- Cultural competency to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Work with diverse set of community-based organizations, residents and stakeholders
- Foster open communication within and among diverse groups
- Work in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Some experience in community organizing is helpful, team building and group dynamics
- Experience in meeting facilitation, and/or community relations
- Ability to work independently, be flexible, and manage multiple priorities
- Work well in a team-oriented environment and maintain harmonious relationships
- Proficient computer skills, especially using Microsoft Suite and Google Suite of applications
- Detail-oriented with excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and writing skills
- Experience with public speaking and presentations
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain consistent and timely communication with EYL team and other program team members for your programs and follow all required Teaching Artist(s) sign in/out procedures when onsite as well as maintain any required paperwork on site.
- Maintain compliance with fingerprinting and background checks, as well as current CPR/First Aid certification
- Attend all required training/meetings throughout the year, including EYL 365 Project training, arts cohort training, once a month volunteer events and any training/orientation for your program as scheduled
- Support EYL 365 Project events as scheduled
- Support assessment and evaluation efforts for all after-school programs.
- Other duties as assigned
- Volunteering once a month at one of the sites we service
