Role Overview
The Freight Broker will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with shippers and carriers, negotiating competitive rates, and growing our network of TL and LTL freight clients
Key Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Freight Broker in TL and/or LTL or in a similar logistics/sales role, with a focus on developing new freight opportunities
- Possess an entrepreneurial mindset embracing change, innovation and risk-taking characteristics
- Strong ability to prospect and generate new leads, close sales, and negotiate contracts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build rapport and long-lasting relationships
- Skilled in negotiating competitive rates with both clients and carriers to maximize profitability
- Deep understanding of freight brokerage, transportation, and logistics, including current market conditions and trends
- Ability to manage multiple accounts and loads simultaneously to maintain a high level of service
- Proficient with transportation management systems (TMS) and other logistics software
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Responsibilities
- The Freight Broker will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with shippers and carriers, negotiating competitive rates, and growing our network of TL and LTL freight clients
- This role requires excellent communication and sales skills, a deep understanding of the logistics industry, and a proven track record of securing new freight contracts
- Build relationships with decision-makers at companies in need of transportation solutions, providing tailored brokerage services to meet their needs
- Develop and maintain a pipeline utilizing a CRM, of potential shippers and identify emerging TL and LTL freight opportunities in various industries
- Proactively source new TL and LTL freight clients and shipping contracts through cold-calling, networking, and market research
- Carrier Relations & Negotiation: Ability to coordinate and manage loads while growing a carrier base and monitoring performance.
- Manage and execute all aspects of the freight cycle, including booking loads, dispatching, tracking shipments, and resolving any operational challenges
- Oversee the accuracy of shipping documents, ensuring compliance client specifications and industry regulations, including DOT and FMCSA guidelines
- Provide clients with regular updates on their shipments and offer solutions to any logistics issues that may arise
- Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, pricing, and competitors, ensuring the company remains competitive in the marketplace
- Analyze freight trends and data to identify opportunities for cost savings or improved service offerings for clients
- All other duties and projects as assigned
