Director of Construction

The Director of Construction will oversee all aspects of Pioneer Broadband’s fiber optic network buildout, including aerial and underground construction in rural Maine. This role involves managing both office and field operations, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and industry standards. The Director will work closely with internal teams and external contractors, provide leadership, and coordinate the efforts of various stakeholders to deliver successful fiber build projects ranging from small private builds to large grant-funded initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Oversee and manage Outside Plant (OSP) fiber optic network construction, including both buried and aerial infrastructure.
- Ensure the timely and accurate installation and maintenance of all fiber networks.
- Oversee work scheduling, resource allocation, and deployment of both internal teams and subcontractors.
- Lead the hiring, supervision, and termination of employees in the construction department as necessary.
- Manage the construction fleet and equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and utilization.
- Develop and implement safety standards in collaboration with the Maintenance and Safety Compliance Officer, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Review and approve change requests, coordinating with engineering teams to ensure project accuracy.
- Conduct regular construction meetings with crews, contractors, and inspectors to ensure adherence to project timelines and standards.
- Utilize industry-standard software such as Vetro, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Google Earth for reviewing design plans and maps.
- Ensure compliance with telecommunication industry standards, as well as Maine DOT utility construction standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred) or equivalent experience in the telecommunications industry.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in fiber optic network construction, with 3 years in a management role.
- Proven experience in managing both aerial and underground fiber construction projects.
- Extensive knowledge of telecommunication industry standards, construction methods, and safety practices.
- Strong familiarity with Maine DOT utility construction standards is a plus.
