Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Formulation Chemist to join our cosmetic and personal care R&D lab. This role involves developing and optimizing formulations for skincare, haircare, and other personal care products while ensuring product stability, performance, and compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented problem solver with a strong background in formulation as well as regulatory compliance, and a passion for creating high-quality, market-ready products.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize formulations for skincare, haircare, and personal care products based on project requirements.
- Select and evaluate raw materials for performance, compatibility, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct stability and compatibility testing to ensure product efficacy and shelf-life.
- Scale up formulations from lab to production, collaborating with compounding and manufacturing teams for smooth transitions.
- Perform pH, viscosity, stability, and sensory evaluations on new and existing formulas.
- Ensure formulations comply with regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, EU, ISO, etc.).
- Maintain accurate documentation, batch records, and formulation data.
- Work cross-functionally with Sales, Quality Control (QC), Marketing, and Production teams.
- Troubleshoot formulation challenges such as stability issues, separation, or ingredient compatibility.
- Keep up with industry trends, emerging technologies, and new raw materials to innovate formulations.
- Support the continuous improvement of formulations and processes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure the R&D lab is organized, well-maintained, and compliant with safety protocols
Qualifications/ Requirements
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in formulation development (cosmetics, personal care, or related industries).
- Strong understanding of raw material interactions (surfactants, emulsifiers, rheology modifiers, preservatives, fragrances, active ingredients, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with formulation techniques, lab equipment, and testing methods.
- Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), INCI naming conventions, and regulatory compliance.
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with teams and present findings.
- Time management skills to balance multiple projects effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with formulation software and ERP systems
- Previous experience working in a cosmetic contract manufacturing environment.
