R&D Senior Formulation Chemist Description General Description The Sr. Formulation Chemist will be responsible for supporting research and development of projects including new product formulations, existing product reformulations, and product formulation troubleshooting. In addition, this role will ensure that projects meet required deadlines and timelines for new products from concept to product launch.The Sr. Formulation Chemist must have a strong background in chemistry with hands-on experience in formulation and laboratory analysis. Senior-level experience with an in-depth understanding of scientific principles and proficiency in research techniques are required and the ability to conduct complex assignments with minimal guidance will be required. This role will be responsible for project coordination and strong communication and teamwork is essential. RESPONSIBILITIES : Development of market and test-compliant cosmetic products, taking price / performance / quality into account. Design of formulations according to technical briefings and legal requirements.Execute and manage R&D life cycle of new products including process initiation, research, and formulation.Work within existing processes and actively contribute to process improvements.Coordination of all development activities with all departments concerned (Sales, Marketing, Project Management, Data Management, Regulatory…).Contact person for quality assurance and production in the event of quality deviations and defective production offering solution-oriented support.Work closely with the Director of R&D to create and implement new product formulation schedules and strategies proactively within the department to ensure all new products are developed and approved while meeting department and company deadlines, standards, and regulatory specifications.Ensure implementation of solutions for product quality issues that are related to ingredients, formulation, or formulation processes.Compose ingredients listings, ingredient descriptions, and new product information to be used for company marketing initiatives, upon approval and as directed.To keep spotless and detailed formulas record while in R&D process.Regulatory requirements as it pertains to cosmetic / personal care formulation.Exchange with R&D product development teams in Europe (CH, UK) to coordinate product developments and to utilize synergies by considering the existing formulation portfolio.Utilization of synergies with existing tests and active ingredient combinations for new developments.A strong background in sunscreen formulations, ingredients, and self-tanning products will be required.EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE : PhD in a scientific discipline; Bachelor’s degree considered with appropriate equivalent experience.Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior chemist role.Experience in formulating cosmetics and OTC products is highly preferred.Proven track record of bringing superior and successful products from concept, through formulation, to launch.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE : Excellent critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Outstanding oral and written communication skills.Strong ability to multitask.Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail.Takes initiative and is innately proactive.Excellent time management skills.Strong management experience with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Ability to work independently or with minimum supervision and to drive the project forward.PC literate in various databases including Microsoft, SAP, and Google Docs.Must perform well under pressure and deadlines.Physical Requirements Ability to lift 15 pounds, climb stairs, lift, bend, kneel, stand for long periods of time.MARQ Labs offers a robust benefits suite with most premiums funded by the employer!
