Department Title: Undergrad Intern – Franklin Templeton Investment Solutions - Investment Research
Location: The intern candidate must be able to commute into either the Ft. Lauderdale, FL, New York City, NY, San Mateo, CA, or Boston, MA office on a daily basis.
Position Summary:
Franklin Templeton Investment Solutions (FTIS) is the investment group at Franklin Templeton that constructs portfolios that encompass multiple asset classes.
The FTIS research team is responsible for researching markets, managers and factors and providing actionable portfolio investment recommendations across those eligible universes.
Team Culture:
- The FTIS team is unique in that it maintains a global footprint, with a global multi-asset investment opportunity set, and leveraging insights from across the global Franklin Templeton organization.
- The team collaborates daily through in-person and online dialog intended to ensure constant communication.
- The undergraduate research intern will have regular direct communication with senior research analysts, the head of research, and portfolio managers.
An Undergraduate Research Intern at Franklin Templeton can expect to learn:
- A keen understanding of growth, inflation, policy, and sentiment factors and how they relate to asset class returns
- Interrelationships between macroeconomic forces and market returns
- Implications of asset allocation recommendations on multi-asset class portfolio returns
Key Responsibilities Can Include:
- Researching and presenting various indicators for utilization within FTIS’s investment committee - the Investment Strategy and Research Committee (ISRC) framework.
- Enhancing macro dashboards for ISRC. Macro dashboards help set the broad backdrop and serve as the foundation of intra- and inter-asset class recommendations.
- Analysis of manager peer groups to determine which asset classes provide the best and worst opportunities to add value through active manager selection.
- Determining which metrics have the best correlation to forward excess returns for active managers and assisting with constructing a systematic scoring system for managers.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Coursework in finance, economics, and mathematics
- A keen interest in macroeconomic and market research
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Proficiency in excel is a must, experience utilizing Bloomberg is preferred, and Python coding skills are a plus

Compensation Range: This is a full-time internship where students will work approximately 35 - 37.5 hours per week and earn competitive hourly pay of $28 - $47 USD per hour. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
