Job Summary:
We are seeking a Powder Coater to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in powder coating and be able to apply a durable, high-quality finish to various metal products. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of quality in their work and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Basic Function:
The basic function of this position is to ensure that all parts are coated according to the requirements as described in the process manual.
Reporting Relationship
The coater will report to the supervisor and/or quality. In the event the supervisor and/or quality is not available they will report to the plant manager.
Job Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, pull up to 55 lbs on your own and up to 70 lbs with a team lift or equipment assistance
- Ability to walk, bend, stoup, crouch, kneel, climb, stand for 10 hours
- Ability to hold and operate a powder coating gun, with full-range wrist mobility (side to side, circular, and up and down motions) for 10 hours
- Ability to work in high temperatures
- Ability to communicate needs and concerns in a timely manner
- Ability to read and understand process sheets
- Ability to hear horns, buzzers, and an intercom page, and respond accordingly
- Ability to wear proper PPE- respirators (as needed), safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, and steel or safety toe shoes or boots
- Ability to recognize differences in colors, thickness of powder, and any contamination within the powder
Duties and Responsibilities
- Properly set up booth/guns to successfully coat parts
- Document and monitor the following for consistent coating each time: Air, powder, KV settings
- Identify the following: proper air, powder and KV settings, proper tooling: flight bars, jigs, hooks, chains etc.; jig/hook placement; minimum and maximum height allowances
- Identify and verify the following: Part numbers/names, inconstantly hung parts, initiate process improvements, keep work area organized and clear from unnecessary debris
- Verify proper densities
- Identify and remove damaged, unprepared parts from the line
- Follow production schedule and identify any urgent or new parts
- Report any broken equipment or tools to supervisor in a timely manner
- Verify process sheets for each part, and notify supervisor when one is not available, or changes need to be made
- Communicate clearly with other coaters to ensure the line runs smoothly and effectively and avoid down time
- Perform booth maintenance weekly (this may require weekend work)
- Maintain inventory of necessary equipment related to the booth/gun, and not mix parts from other equipment
