What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Fabcon Precast?
Purpose/Scope:
A buyer will procure materials, supplies and services in support of Manufacturing and Field operations. In accordance with company policies, develop and maintain supplier purchase orders, relationships, and daily communications providing the best value to Fabcon.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process and maintain a high volume of tactical Purchase Orders within the ERP system
- Negotiate PO price and terms for tactical supplier orders
- Manage purchase orders to control deliveries, back orders and receipts in line with departmental goals
- Order all Required Materials Lists and purchase requisitions for production support and MRO in a timely manner
- Determine material usage volume and quantity
- Handle the disposition of non-conforming materials
- Measure Supplier’s service and quality
- Assist Accounts Payable in handling payables
- Maintain acceptable inventory levels, reorder points, and EOQ’s with Inventory Control consistent with Fabcon’s objectives
- Research and review tactical RFQ’s with Supply Chain team consistent with Fabcon’s specifications
- Support Supply Chain projects to continuously improve Fabcon’s performance.
- Provide support for ISO documentation and Supply Chain policies and procedures
- Maintain records consistent with Supply Chain functions and ISO requirements
- Cross train with Inventory Control, providing backup when required
- Manage and design reporting in support of Supply Chains objectives for safety, quality, service and operational excellence/efficiency
- Assist with duties of Purchasing Assistants
- Other duties consistent with Tactical Purchasing support
- Maintain procurement conduct consistent with company policy, operating procedures, accepted practice and applicable state and federal regulations
Basic Qualifications:
- BS or BA Degree in Business or Supply Chain related field
- 2 years Purchasing experience equivalent using an ERP system
Other Required Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with teams and across the organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPM, APICS certification
- 1 years Construction related experience either in Operations or Supply Chain
Physical Requirements:
- Able to travel to suppliers, other Fabcon plants, and job sites
- Able to access materials inside and outside the manufacturing plant
- Office: Move 25lbs (not for all jobs, reasonable accommodations will be made), work with a computer for extended periods of time
Work Environment:
- Outdoor evaluation of inventory in each Fabcon facility
- This position works in an office environment with occasional travel and visits to the plant and yard
- Office: Quiet with some ambient noise, climate controlled, fluorescent lighting
- Plant/Yard: All types of weather conditions (year-round, Mid-west and Northeast), dirt/dust, noise from heavy machinery/vehicles, vibrations from machinery and vehicles, loud noises, little to no climate control, varying amounts of light, stairs, narrow walkways
