Summary
The Metal Fabrication Designer is responsible for reviewing and analyzing customer information to create models and technical drawings to build a wide variety of fabricated metal products following standard procedures. Supports a safe working environment, quality products, on-time delivery of engineering information to the operations team in an efficient manner. Work with all departments to accurately and quickly respond to customers. This position has an opportunity to take additional responsibilities as person develops.
Duties and responsibilities
· Review and analyze customer information (i.e. drawings, specifications, verbal direction, etc.) to create fabrication requirements including part tolerances, critical dimensions, finishing standards and job instructions as needed
· Prepare models and technical drawings (blueprints) in various CAD software
· Provide production employees ready access to the information and tools needed to successfully fabricate and assure the quality of customer parts and assemblies
· Incorporate lessons learned to improve production techniques and efficiencies
· Program for the Laser using Ncell Accufab software
· Generate required inspection documentation
· Resolve design problems and other customers suggestions using DFMA techniques
· Use mathematical formulas to develop design specifications
· Inspects internal paperwork for proper routing, material and operations
· Leads drafting projects to ensure timelines are met and information well organized for the production team
· Acts as liaison between office and production team to resolve any issues related to drafting
· Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a Mechanical Drafting program or related field and Manufacturing Engineering and/or Mechanical Drafting experience preferred
- Proficient in the use of Autocad and Autodesk Fusion or Inventor or the ability to become proficient
- Able to read blueprints, Able to use Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) desired or ability to learn
- Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing methods and procedures desired
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Effective verbal and written communication internal and external to the organization
- Attention to detail and consistent follow-through
