Facet is a fast-growing energetic civil and structural engineering and environmental consulting firm with six offices in Washington. We are engineers, scientists, arborists, landscape architects, planners, and more, with decades of experience working throughout the PNW and the nation.
Job Summary
The Director of Operations establishes practices for consistent firm operations and management across multiple disciplines, departments, and office locations, including in-person, hybrid, and remote employees. This role is entrusted with managing resources, implementing strategies, and improving efficiencies to enable our teams to deliver our projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Director of Operations collaborates with diverse teams comprised of Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, Planners, Ecologists, and administrative personnel to not only improve their operations, but to ensure alignment with overall strategic goals. The Human Resources, Finance, and Marketing Managers report to this role, allowing the Director of Operations to lead budget, workforce planning, and revenue generation efforts.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive knowledge of organizational management, communications process improvement, budgeting, and team management within the realm of professional services consulting. They demonstrate exceptional problem-solving abilities by employing sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovative thinking to address complex challenges.
Essential Job Functions
Develop effective change management strategies for initiatives and ensure that all projects and implementations connect to Facets strategic vision.
Mitigate operational risk factors by addressing root causes and finding process improvements.
Establish systems for assigning, monitoring, and reviewing progress and accuracy of work. Provide direction and ensure compliance and consistency across functional units.
Supervise the preparation of department budgets to achieve financial objectives, workload projections, invoices, and timely collection of accounts receivable.
Maintain control of overall budgets and present major spending proposals to the Board along with analysis and recommendations.
Manage the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
Facilitate Facets continued growth, project future staffing needs, optimize the utilization of current employees, and lead succession planning efforts.
Represent the company as required, support the internal team and clients in meetings, presentations, and public hearings related to assigned projects.
Spearhead and approve the creation, documentation, and implementation of SOPs across the organization.
Ensure KPIs and compensation strategies support the strategic goals of the organization.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Hire, supervise, and mentor the leaders of the Finance, Human Resources and Marketing teams.
Provide performance feedback based on metrics and KPIs.
Function as the primary point of contact connecting the Executive team to Finance, Human Resources, and Marketing performance and initiatives.
Required Skills / Abilities
Thorough understanding of practices, theories, and policies involved in business and finance.
Superior managerial and diplomacy skills.
History of successfully managing concurrent projects and initiatives.
Proficiency in technology required for the role and familiar with available solutions to improve efficiency.
Exceptional written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Ability to research complex compliance issues and make well-informed decisions.
Deep understanding of change management principles.
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in business administration, finance, or a related field.
Extensive and diversified operations background with at least 5 years of experience.
The Ideal Candidate May Also Have
Experience with navigating government contracts and compliance.
PMP Certification.
Exposure to Environmental Science and / or Engineering Design.
Demonstrated experience with expanding organizational diversity, including in midlevel and leadership tiers.
Experience with mergers and acquisitions.
