The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking a Vehicle and Equipment Technician II to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. With more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine RECenters, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level. Under supervision, this position performs maintenance and repair of equipment for the entire Park Authority grounds equipment fleet, which includes :
- Carousels, miniature trains, specialized golf turf equipment, large tractors, ice resurfacers, amusement rides, engines of power generators, heavy equipment, and other mowing equipment.
Provides high level diagnostic and repair services to all makes and models of grounds equipment both at the shop and in the field when emergency repairs and maintenance is required.
Removes and tears down components and assemblies, such as engines, transmissions, electrical systems, reassembles and test repairs.
Changes tires on all types of equipment. Operates equipment once serviced to determine if equipment is properly repaired and safe to operate.
Procures parts and supplies using a county procurement card or purchase order.
Follows all listed preventive maintenance and safety inspection requirements.
Maintains shop inside and outside for organization and cleanliness for safety.
Note : Position reports to Equipment Maintenance Shop located at 4030 Hummer Road Annandale VA 22003.

Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following : (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") completion of the tenth grade plus four years of experience in problem diagnosis, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of light, medium, heavy and / or specialized automotive equipment. Related automotive technical education or trade training above high school may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a set of tools commonly used in the automotive industry, such as wrenches, pliers, and sockets and ratchets. Personal tools are required upon appointment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
At least 5 years of experience in diagnosis and repair of gasoline & diesel engines and their systems which may include transmissions, hydraulic systems, CVT systems.
Experience using service manuals and reading schematics of given system.
Ability to test drive various equipment with manual transmission.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED :
Driver's license (required)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Ability to climb ladders and work at varying heights above the ground. Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently. Ability to traverse in uneven terrain for sustained periods of time during outdoor weather extremes. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
