Description
Under limited supervision of the Manager, Instrumentation and Operational Technology, leads, directs and performs advanced specialized engineering work associated with the maintenance of computerized process control, data acquisition and / or data transmission for water plant production and distribution systems.
Examples of Duties
- Lead and assists System Control Engineer in performing advanced specialized engineering work associated with the maintenance of computerized process control, data acquisition and / or data transmission of water plant production and distribution systems by :
- Evaluating various plant processes and operations for control scheme and network optimization and troubleshooting process control malfunctions.
- Maintaining existing control and network strategies and recommending modifications to the Manager.
- Maintaining the controls and historical databases.
- Maintaining the SCADA computing & server infrastructure.
- Developing new data, presentation formats, including display graphics and reports, in conjunction with the appropriate operations and engineering personnel.
- Maintaining system hardware, including both preventive maintenance and emergency repair.
- Administering system security tasks.
- Coordinate with OT Network Analysts to design and maintain network infrastructures including : routing, switching, encryption, wireless, network management and network security.
- Maintaining accurate system documentation.
- Training, instructing, certifying and qualifying all DCS and SCADA users.
- Conducting essential data archive functions.
- Performing periodic system backups.
- Coordinate with Instrumentation Supervisors for advanced specialized technical work associated with process control and data acquisition by :
- Collaborating with Instrumentation Techs in defining problems, justifying solutions, and producing designs for new hardware or software for optimizing process control or meeting new management requirements.
- Maintaining and repairing associated field instrumentation.
- Significant knowledge and ability to effectively interface with operational and technical disciplines (electrical, mechanical, process) and to develop changes in ancillary equipment; Significant ability and skill in writing and presenting clear and concise cost justification reports and presentations.
- Ability to work with contractors, consultants, internal units, and external parties to maintain satisfactory working relationships with subordinates, peers, and supervisors and to work in a team environment.
- Assist with preparation and monitoring of the Group's annual budget.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Coverage is effective 1st day of month after hire if hired between the 1st and 15th of the month. If hired between the 16th and 31st of the month, coverage is effective the 1st day of the 2nd month after hire.
Group Life Insurance - Employee Cost Month
Basic = 2 times annual salary

The Group Life Insurance Plan is offered to all permanent full time employees. Effective date follows same rule as health insurance.
Long-Term Disability
Effective after 36 months of employment with Fairfax Water. Benefit is equivalent to 66.7% of base pay at no cost to the employee.
Fairfax Water Retirement Plan - Is a defined benefit plan in which all regular full time employees are enrolled in at time of hire at no cost to employees. Employees are vested after five years of service.
ICMA 457 Plan - Is a deferred compensation plan which employees can voluntarily participate in with a maximum contribution as established by the IRS on a yearly basis.
