The classroom associate is supervised by a classroom or special education teacher and may do a variety of tasks throughout the school day. The following are some of the tasks that might be assigned to a classroom associate. Additional tasks may be assigned by the teacher or principal from time to time as needed.

The following are some of the tasks that might be assigned to a classroom associate. Additional tasks may be assigned by the teacher or principal from time to time as needed.
Working with students
- Riding in a school vehicle to transport a student to/from school.
- Accompanying individual student(s) to each recess and/or breakfast and lunch.
- Instructing individual or small groups of students under the supervision and planning of a teacher.
- Accompanying students to special classes (art, music, PE) and on field trips.
- Implementing and monitoring student behavior plans under the supervision of a classroom or special education teacher (may include physically removing a student from the classroom and taking for a time out).
- Supervising a classroom for a short period of time under the supervision of another teacher or the building principal.
- Before and after school supervision of students.
- Attending Student Assistance Team meetings or special education staffings.
- Recess duty
- Lunch or breakfast duty
- Hall duty
- Clerical tasks for teachers, including such things as preparing materials for lessons, helping with bulletin boards, checking papers, and laminating.
- Covering the office for the secretary
- Serving on building-wide committees
- Must complete blood-borne pathogens and child abuse training yearly and file certificate with central office.
- Associates are encouraged to take non-violence intervention training and be informed of the district’s regulations regarding restraint and confinement.
