Description
Assisting veterans in filing claims with the Veterans Administration for various benefits. To assist veterans and dependents filing for financial assistance claims.
Duties
- Advises and aids veterans or their dependents in preparing compensation and pension claims to submit for adjudication to the Veterans Administration
- Advises the client what evidence is necessary to file a claim in a timely manner
- Evaluates and determines validity of claims by reviewing legislation, regulations, precedents, and by studying the veteran's medical reports and service history
- Help claimants obtain power of attorney on their claim
- Prepares claim forms and briefs (statements in support) and assembles pertinent evidence
- Requests hearing before government boards and presents case
- Reviews board decisions for grounds for appeal
- Advise veterans on insurance, loans, education, and other matters, working in cooperation with the Veterans Administration and other government agencies.
- Participates in various outreach duties for the office and assist the veterans and or dependents with the application process for the financial assistance program.
- Have a working knowledge of the county's MUNIS system

Supplemental Information
Must possess typing skills, computer skills, good communication skills, accounting, filing, and basic office procedures. Also, must possess knowledge of the financial assistance program and guidelines.
