REGULAR HOURS OF WORK: Typically 8 paid hrs/day, Monday – Friday (7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., 7:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. as scheduled)

SPECIFICATIONS:
This is specialized work in the instructing and training of individuals who have developmental disabilities. An employee in this classification applies special methods of instruction that will develop life adjustment skills, abilities, and understandings. The employee works with considerable independence, receiving general and professional direction from the Educational Programs Supervisor/Principal. As an employee of the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the job incumbent shall comply with all Board policies at all times, and shall demonstrate respect for, support the dignity of, and observe the rights of all individuals served by the agency.
25% Plans and implements units of instruction relevant to the persisting life problems of each student under his/her instruction based on age appropriate and functional activities.
10% Plans and implements daily lesson plans designed to meet the Individual Education Plan objectives, including assisting with swimming in the therapy pool.
10% Maintains classroom discipline in accordance with program policies and procedures.
5% Administers evaluative instruments to each student under his/her instruction in order to determine individual needs.
10% Plans and develops an Individual Education Plan based on multi-factored assessment, in conjunction with the input of a multidisciplinary team and parents.
5%Assists public school systems and adults’ services program in planning and implementing Individual Transition Plans based on identified student interest and ability.
5% Keeps accurate and current training records, attendance records, records of monies collected and any other recorded material necessary for the efficient maintenance of the program.
5% Maintains a cooperative relationship with coworkers and the family of each child under his/her instruction in order to best facilitate and implement the Individual Education Plan.
5% Directs the work of Instructor Assistants, Educational Aides, volunteers, students in training, and others, as directed.
5% Is available for parent conferences throughout the year.
5% Assumes other related duties as assigned by administration.
3% Relates program philosophy, procedures, and goals to the general public in a positive manner.
2% Attends those conferences, workshops, seminars, and meetings designed to enhance professional growth as permitted and/or requested by the administration. Completes all assigned training.
2% Maintains professional ethics in keeping with the confidentiality of information and material with which he/she will come in contact.
2% Serves on committees as assigned. Assists administration in preparing Board Policy relating to students. Assists in selecting in-service topics and presenters.
1% Complies, as necessary, with Safety Rules established for the purpose of fulfilling compliance with Ohio Employment Risk Reduction Standards, Rules, or Orders, through the utilization of protective equipment and decontamination techniques.
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Appropriate Intervention Specialist License from Ohio Department of Education.
- Must be physically capable to lift up to 50 lbs. per lifting policy, carry and move students in a safe manner, according to in-service training.
- Maintains First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Ability to accurately, efficiently and effectively use technology to assist students with communication, complete required training and certification processes.
- Maintains a current, valid Ohio Driver's License, points on driving record may not be equal to or exceed 6 and must be acceptable to agency insurance carrier. Maintains personal vehicle insurance.
- Must be able to tolerate up to one hour in a therapy pool with temperatures of 92o – 94oF (doctor’s release required).
- Must be certifiable as a school van driver as defined by Ohio Department of Education.
