Job Summary:
The High School CTE Cosmetology Instructor is responsible for providing students with industry-relevant instruction in cosmetology, preparing them for state licensure and careers in the beauty industry. The instructor will create an engaging, hands-on learning environment that aligns with Indiana Department of Education CTE standards and meets the requirements of the Indiana State Board of Cosmetology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Indiana CTE Cosmetology curriculum standards.
- Deliver hands-on instruction in hairstyling, cutting, coloring, skincare, nail technology, and salon management.
- Prepare students for the Indiana State Board of Cosmetology licensure examination.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress toward certification.
- Supervise students in a simulated salon environment, ensuring adherence to sanitation and safety regulations.
- Integrate real-world experiences, including guest speakers, industry partnerships, and work-based learning opportunities.
- Maintain and manage salon equipment, inventory, and supplies within budget guidelines.
- Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and success.
- Support career development by assisting students with resume building, interview skills, and job placement opportunities.
- Collaborate with school staff, industry professionals, and local businesses to enhance program offerings.
- Participate in professional development activities to stay current with industry trends and educational best practices.
- Enroll and maintain records for students who qualify for Dual Credit with Vincennes University.
Qualifications:
- Valid Indiana Cosmetology Instructor License.
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in the cosmetology industry.
- Must meet Indiana Department of Education CTE teaching requirements or be willing to obtain necessary credentials.
- Strong knowledge of current industry trends, techniques, and products.
- Effective classroom management skills and ability to engage high school students.
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, and industry professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous teaching experience in a high school or postsecondary setting.
- Experience developing curriculum and lesson plans.
- Knowledge of dual credit and industry certification opportunities for students.
Work Environment:
- Classroom and lab setting with a fully equipped cosmetology salon.
- Requires standing for extended periods, demonstrating technical skills, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
