job purpose: Act as Shift Supervisor providing key support and facilitation for the Production Department including: Knowledge of all production lines and equipment. Ability to trouble-shoot and resolve issues. Responsible for system efficiencies; direct employee activities; and material flow. Sound communication skills, both verbal and written. Be able to act as a coach, mentor, facilitator, and leader while fostering teamwork within the workplace. Ensure that documentation is accurate and complete. Direct the work of others to accomplish the production demands as outlined in the schedule and ensure that GMP’s, preventive maintenance schedules, and performance measures are met.

responsibilities:

  • Training
  • Training and development of shift team members.
  • Ensure everyone on shift knows and understands the production schedule, and what products are to be processed.
  • Cross train all employees on production systems.
  • Logistics
  • Continually monitor system performance compared to production schedule.
  • Ensure all systems start-up on time.
  • Communicate with Plant Superintendent on a routine basis. Keep him informed of plant status and possible changes required.
  • Documentation and Paperwork
  • Charts and Dockets:
  • Maintain all processing charts, HTST’s, systems, silos, and CIP charts.
  • All charts are to be filled out, and all events signed by the operators. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • Review and filing of charts daily.
  • Dockets must be filled out prior to product being loaded out, NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • Review and filing of dockets weekly.
  • Maintain Production Efficiencies
  • Monitor component, flux, and permeate data on systems as well as pasteurization temperatures on HTST’s.
  • Membrane Systems 1,2,3,9,10,11
  • Separators
  • Batching Systems
  • HTST’s 2, & 3.
  • Sanitation
  • Maintain Sanitation programs:
  • Silo cleaning and rotation.
  • Master Sanitation cleaning schedules.
  • Period Cleaning schedules.
  • Verify CIP System Performance.
  • Quality
  • Check components on each load prior to shipment.
  • Prior to Shipment – communicate any out of standard load to Plant Superintendent.
  • Stay current on Federal Regulations concerning milk and milk testing.
  • Safety
  • Know and understand OSHA and Safety Regulations.
  • Administer basic first aid.
  • Lead and ensure compliance to plant safety training programs.
  • Complete paper-work requirements for all accidents.
  • Communicate safety issues to managers and administrative assistant.

skills/qualifications required:

  • High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED) or Equivalent Experience.
  • Food manufacturing, material handling and forklift operation experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in the dairy or cheese industry is preferred.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMP's, OSHA and loss control programs is highly desirable.
  • Previous dairy plant experience in equipment CIP procedure and safe milk handling is a plus.
  • Must be able to be a coach, facilitate, mentor, and lead.
  • Computer Literacy -- Ability to use, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Needs good organizational skills, time management skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and team oriented.
  • Initiate and determine possible opportunities for improvement.
  • Able to work without direct supervision.
  • Able to prioritize projects and handle multiple projects at one time.
  • Flexible to changing needs.
  • Knowledge of all plant processes.

working conditions and physical requirements:

  • 12 hours sitting/standing/walking
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Reaching/bending requirements
  • Exposure to hazards (machinery, confined spaces, etc.)

food safety requirements:

  • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.
  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.
