Under the direction of the Fairplex Learning and Development Center (FLDC) Program and Education Manager, the Arts Studio Coordinator manages and executes strategies and programs that align with the mission and meet the strategic objectives of FLDC in the areas of art education and appreciation. This includes overseeing open studio hours for our local community members. The Art Studio Coordinator will work with local artists during the open studio sessions, assist in the studio with distribution of materials and supplies, projects and activities, and work with individuals to encourage and promote success.
This position is a temporary 20-30 week position from February – August.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Welcomes guests, explains rules and makes them feel welcome.
- Organizes the studio with supplies before opening and cleans up after daily activities.
- Assists in building the program by providing programming oversight, feedback, and suggestions.
- Works with the team to send out invites / marketing to local artists / arts programs.
- Reports on program to the FLDC team.
- Manages basic budgeting for grant management / supplies upkeep.
Skills, Knowledge And Abilities
The preferred candidate is an effective decision-maker and possesses an understanding of the principles and practices of art and arts programming. The applicant should appreciate the arts and artists, both Fine Arts and Crafts. Must be approachable and engaging, displaying an encouraging presence. The ideal candidate has personal experience as an artist in 2-D dry media as well as any / all other kinds (including but not limited to Acrylic Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics / Sculpture, Collage, Inks, Design, etc.). Ability to problem-solve is essential. Requires professional, responsible experience in the arts. Must be a self-starter, proven leader, and able to manage activities and projects with little supervision. Candidates should consistently demonstrate professionalism, possess exceptional communication skills, the ability to speak before groups, and strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Knowledge of and relationships with the Southern California Art Community is desired. Must be an advocate for the Arts Center. Requires organizational skills and the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment. Hours worked will include every Friday, occasional weekend work, and some days of the Los Angeles County Fair.
