2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR (ANTICIPATED VACANCY)

LOCATION: Fairview High School
TITLE: High School Guidance Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree
- Pennsylvania Certification – Secondary Guidance Certification
- Knowledge of student scheduling and Dual Enrollment program
- Experience in college and post high school career planning
- Knowledge of special needs students, laws, disabilities, interventions, and IEPs
- Demonstrate organizational and communication skills
- Previous guidance counseling experience
REPORTS TO: High School Principal
SALARY: Per the F.E.A. Contract
EVALUATION: Annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations and the F.E.A. Contract
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Emotional and Behavioral Services
- Serve as the initial contact for students needing emotional and behavioral counseling
- Act as the liaison between students, parents, administration, and local agencies that offer support to our students
- Serve as a member of the Student Assistance Team
- Assist administration with students experiencing discipline problems
- Assist in coordination of out-of-school services with appropriate community agencies
- Registration
- Schedule new students and evaluate transcripts for proper placement
- Provide registration material for dual enrollment classes
- Orientation of new and transfer students
- Scheduling
- Meet with students individually and in groups to determine schedule selections for upcoming year and to check credits and graduation requirements
- Assist with construction of master schedule and teacher/class assignments
- Schedule students and assist in schedule changes
- Compile teacher recommendations for level placement for course selections for upcoming year
- Testing
- Schedule and interpret standardized tests (ex. AP, Keystone, PSAT, ASVAB)
- Provide college entrance exam test dates
- Train faculty in Keystone administration
- Coordinate AP testing
- Apply for accommodations for standardized testing for students
- Graduation
- Finalize credit count toward graduation each year
- Prepare the FHS school profile to accompany transcripts
- Post High School Planning
- Coordinate financial aid night/evening sessions for parents
- Survey seniors concerning post-secondary plans
- Assist with creating individual students career paths beyond high school
- Travel to colleges or universities or vocational programs to learn about programs, admission requirements, and financial aid information
- Meet individually with each student during the fall semester
- Assist with college applications, scholarships, and financial aid forms
- Coordinate visits to college information days
- Career Resource Activity
- Work cooperatively with the School-to-Work Liaison
- Coordinate shadow activities (Career Day)
- Academics
- Meet with students having difficulties and notify parents if appropriate
- Organize and facilitate parent/teacher conferences
- Prepare GPA information
- Schedule students in need of summer school
- Coordinate selection of scholarship and award recipients
- Notify individual students of available scholarships
- Develop academic and behavioral contracts for students. Follow-up to insure compliance
- Create Honor Roll – provide information for National Honor Society/Scholastic Banquet
- Special Needs Students
- Meet with special program teachers to determine course selections
- Attend IEP meetings
- Additional Educational Opportunities
- Organize 9th grade visit to Erie County Technical School and distribute applications
- Assist students with enrollment into and progress throughout our cyber academy
- Act as a liaison for Dual Enrollment program
- Support and help the other guidance counselor with tasks
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned by administration
