High School Learning Support Teacher

FAIRVIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT – POSITION DESCRIPTION

Permanent Position 2025-2026 School Year

LOCATION: Fairview High School

POSITION TITLE: Special Education Teacher-Learning Support

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree
2. Pennsylvania certification: In Special Education (N-12) or (7-12)
3. Experience in transition plan writing within IEP’s preferred

REPORTS TO: High School Principal / Supervisor of Special Education

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Track, schedule, write, and implement special education student Individual Education Plans (IEPs) according to PDE regulations reflecting Pennsylvania state standards

1. Track, schedule and write Re-Evaluation Reports for special education students according to PDE regulations

1. Demonstrate a variety of teaching methods and techniques that motivate students to perform at their optimum ability level
2. Display skill in working with regular education teachers in the area of differentiated instruction so that special education needs can be addressed in this environment

1. Partner with general education staff to provide needed adaptations and/or accommodations to the general education curriculum
2. Maintain frequent, positive written and verbal contacts with parents, teachers and administrators regarding program issues and student progress
3. Participate in school-wide committees fostering school safety and character development
4. Participate in professional organizations and professional staff development activities to remain current and to ensure continued growth in the field of special education
5. Demonstrate appropriate use of classroom management techniques
6. Communicate sound behavior management strategies to regular education teachers and parents via in-services, open house, individual meetings, and printed material
7. Work cooperatively with all special education and regular education staff and paraprofessionals to provide quality programming for our special education students addressing individual needs in all learning environments

1. Adhere to all district policies and procedures, maintaining professionalism at all times
2. Obtain and maintain Handle with Care training
3. Integrate technology into the classroom on a daily basis in a 1:1 environment.

EVALUATION: Annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation and F.E.A.
