Fairview Search Group is currently seeking a Controller for an in-office opportunity in the logistics/distribution industry. This role will report to the CFO and oversee a team of 12-14 in accounting. Ideally seeking someone with mix of public accounting and private industry experience, and CPA and prior experience in industry is highly preferred. Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
- Analyze and report on key financial performance indicators, including profitability, cost structure, revenue recognition, and operational efficiency.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, highlighting financial performance, variances, and recommendations.
- Lead financial forecasting, budgeting, and planning processes to ensure alignment with company objectives.
- Prepare ad hoc financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic initiatives.
- Develop and maintain cost allocation models for company services.
- Analyze and control costs related to operations, ensuring efficient resource utilization.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and margin improvement through operational analysis and financial modeling.
- Ensure accurate billing and pricing models for customers.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to ensure the financial health of the business.
- Manage vendor and customer relationships in terms of financial transactions and payments, ensuring timely invoicing and collections.
- Oversee credit management and monitor aging reports to minimize risk and ensure optimal cash flow.
- Ensure compliance with relevant tax laws, financial regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Support the external audit process, including preparation of documentation and financial schedules.
- Supervise and mentor accounting and finance staff, ensuring a high level of competence and performance within the team.
- Ensure continuous training and professional development opportunities for the accounting department.
- Manage and oversee any outsourced or internal accounting processes related to operations.
- Oversee and manage the integration of accounting and inventory management systems (e.g., ERP software).
- Ensure accurate and timely posting of transactions, including those related to inventory, shipments, warehousing, and other functions.
- Work with IT and operations teams to improve the efficiency and accuracy of financial systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification (preferred).
- 3 years of external audit experience preferred
- Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience.
- Experience with ERP (preferably with NetSuite) systems and financial software.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, financial analysis, and reporting specific to the logistics and supply chain industry.
