What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Advocate position at Faith House Crisis Center?
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Greets visitors to the center in a warm, welcoming manner.
- Ensure proper paperwork is completed for children who are on-site.
- Provide supervision and engagement for children of survivors who are meeting with center partners.
- Plan, implement and facilitate activities for the children to participate in including play activities, reading time, showing videos, leading group activities, etc. while children are in the children’s room.
- Maintain a safe and clean children room and teen room by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Meet with mothers to complete an intake, discuss any problems, and assist with parenting support as requested.
- Meet with children to complete an intake, physical and social assessment, and safety plan and to provide other services as requested.
- Inform the Children’s Program Manager and other staff of any problems or situations with the children which merit attention and participate in the resolution.
- Include and encourage child/adult participation with individuals who work with the children in the playroom setting: volunteers, interns, Foster Grandmothers.
- Be prepared to lift and carry small children.
- Assist parents with information about school enrollment or the transfer of school records, prepare packets of school supplies and provide school uniforms.
- Facilitate weekly evening support groups for children.
- Coordinate special activities including field trips and off-site events with Children’s Program Manager.
- Complete all paperwork and record-keeping as directed and on schedule.
- Coordinate on-site volunteers.
- Provide back up for advocates when necessary.
- Assist with special promotions and education in the community.
- Be involved in program advocacy and networking for social change.
- Publicize the program through posters, brochures, newspaper articles and personal contacts.
- Follow all policies as outlined in the Operations Manual for the Family Justice Center of Acadiana, the Faith House Policy & Procedure manual and Operations Manual, DCFS Quality Assurance Standards, Code of Ethics, all state and federal regulations.
- Perform other duties, functions, special projects, and responsibilities as assigned and deemed necessary by immediate supervisor or Executive Director.
- Education/Experience requirements:
College degree or two years experience in working with children.
