Shift Details: 4 days/week, every 5th weekend. 9 hour shifts

Summary:
Provides individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. The registered nurse is a professional who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The RN is responsible for documentation of assessments, interventions, outcomes, discharge plans, and patient/family education. They collaborate with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to provide continuity of care. The registered nurse - assists with tasks to provide age-appropriate patient care and is accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:

☐ Pediatric/Child (1 year – 12 years)

- Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care.
- Knowledge of growth and developmental stages.

- Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making.
2. Competent use of the nursing process to assess priorities, formulate, implement, evaluate and adapt the interdisciplinary plan of care to ensure quality of care is delivered.
- Performs admission assessment in accordance with specific unit standards.
- Identifies and documents patient’s plan of care.
- Identifies and documents patient/family/significant other teaching needs as needed.
- Identifies discharge planning needs of patient/family/significant other on admission.
- Reassessment of plan of care is ongoing, until outcomes/goals are met or discharged.
- Assesses the patient/significant other's response to teaching plan to evaluate the effectiveness of the plan.
- Based on reassessment, plan of care will remain the same or be modified to meet the patient/significant other's identified needs.
- Delegates and assigns appropriate patient care.
- Recognizes changes in patient status based on interpretation of assessments and carries out physician’s orders.
- Plan of care will include goals, interventions, reassessments and discharge outcomes for each identified problem.
- Develops patient/family/significant other teaching and discharge plan.
4. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policies and procedures for administering, verifying, and recording medications.
- Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used meds: action, dose, and side effects.
- Administers blood and blood products following hospital policy and procedures.
- Initiates and maintains IV access according to hospital policy and procedures.
- Functions successfully in an emergency situation. Maintains professional composure and confidence during stressful situations.
5. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, to ensure quality care.
- Referrals to Social Services are made based on identified needs.
6. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the -Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab Department as defined in the scope of practice, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to, the age of the patient served.
- Assist with responsibilities/duties required by the cardiac rehabilitation unit as defined in the scope of service to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
- Promotes -positive working -relationships and works effectively as part of the department/unit team inter and interdepartmentally to facility the unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
7. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
- Demonstrates willingness to identify and/or assume activities relative to the developmental needs of the unit and the nursing department.
- Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the unit and hospital.
- Demonstrates willingness to float to other units as needed.
- Participates in shared leadership.
- Assist in providing for the safety of department employees.
- Assist with mentoring healthcare students.
Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

The requirements listed below must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION :
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or temporary permit from the State of Nebraska required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within one year from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required.

Previous clinical experience preferred.
