What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Propagator position at Fall Creek Farm & Nursery, Inc.?
Fall Creek is creating a world with better blueberries through its friendly, collaborative team spread across the globe. To help us accomplish this, we are seeking a qualified Assistant Propagator. This position will be located in Lowell, OR.
The Fall Creek Assistant Propagator will report to the Propagation Manager. This position will work closely with the Administrative Assistant, Operations Manager, team leaders and hourly employees. May assist with supervision of hourly staff. Collaborates with other managers and departments in the nursery.
What you'll do at Fall Creek:
Responsible for assisting with daily workflow within the department including planting to reach targets, horticultural activities to prepare for production, and greenhouse operations.
Assists with labor planning and team task management organization.
Participate in planning meetings, and understand propagation targets and how they correlate to planning forecasts.
Understanding and implementation of crop plan for delivery to production for transplanting to the finished product
Coordination of direct-to-customer plug shipments; includes sticking and shipping quantities required, grading and patching, chemical applications, communication with commercial and final shipment.
Work with propagation Administrative Assistant to correctly warehouse and audit propagation material.
Informs greenhouse climate controls for proper crop-growing temperatures, humidity control and energy conservation, based on crop stage and end-goal. Inform non-conforming plant needs, including irrigation, humidity, light, etc. Cross-train on climate control settings and monitoring.
Scouts propagation material for pests, overall crop health and anomalies.
Coordinates chemical applications with Crop Health and Propagation Team based on crop need.
What you bring to Fall Creek:
Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, biology, or related area of plant sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience.
1 year’s plant propagation experience in a nursery environment.
Knowledge of plant tissue culture and conventional plant propagation techniques.
Knowledge of propagation methods include hardwood, softwood, seeds and rooting of microcuttings from tissue culture.
Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and some ERP experience.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Requires a valid Oregon driver’s license and the ability to maintain a valid license plus an acceptable (insurable) driving record as determined by our insurance carrier.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Requires good judgment and the ability to positively influence team decision-making.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide spectrum of people.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
Assures the highest level of confidentiality on sensitive matters.
