Position Overview:
The Estimator reviews bid invites and determines which jobs Fallston Supply will bid. They review all contract documents, specifications, and drawings; and provide quantity take-offs, field labor estimates, and shop labor estimates. Solicits pricing for all materials, buy-outs, and sub-contract labor as required to compile a total bid price. Review with management on all larger projects and follow-up as needed to win the project.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):
· Review bid invites to determine which jobs Fallston Supply will bid
· Consider job size, custom work involved, the condition of drawings (are they complete or missing information), residential versus commercial work, company competitiveness, and avoid night work
BID INVITES & QUOTES
· Compile required drawings and specifications
· Review ALL architectural drawings and specification to verify that you have the correct information
· Submit RFIs and follow-up to confirm the answer
· Perform quantity take offs of all items being bid
· Maintain good working relationships with all vendors
· Verify all prospective bidders
· Apply all pricing to cost sheet
· Reach out to every contractor bidding that job
· Review with Shop Manager and Shop personnel to assist in determining shop labor requirements
· Complete and update cost sheets
· Materials, Field Labor, Shop Labor, Misc/Travel/Freight
· Track Fallston Supply’s bid competitiveness
ACTIVE JOB MANAGEMENT
· Provide pricing to contractors as requested and maintain a professional relationship
· Discuss estimates with the VP and consider areas that may face challenges
· Review and process addendums
· Write and submit change orders to the PM and APMs
· Review and revise change orders as needed
· Assist the PM with legitimizing change orders
· Complete and update cost sheets
· Advise VP of award and compile all documents to allow the job to be set up
Supervision Received:
This position works independently and reports to the Vice President
Qualifications & Skills:
REQUIRED:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· 5 years of experience
· Proficient in reading blueprints
· Drug Free environment, must be able to pass background check
· Detail oriented, interpersonal skills, good communicator, knowledge about contractors and architects, and the ability to think outside the box
· Proficient with Microsoft, Adobe, and Excel
· Knowledge about wood and wood working techniques
· Excellent math skills
· Excellent organizational skills
PREFERRED:
· Associates degree in related field
