What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bilingual Family Engagement Specialist position at FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES RISING INC?
Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization that has provided early education and resources to families for over 50 years! FCR Head Start/Early Head Start programs are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated bilingual case managers and family advocates to work with our families.
Our Family Engagement Specialist implement family community partnership services to ensure that families receive the support and services prescribed in the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPS) including assisting in the recruitment, selection and enrollment of children and families and implementing family partnership services for FCR Head Start/Early Head Start families.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate familiarity with Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR) policies and procedures, FCR Head Start/Early Head Start policies, plans and procedures, Head Start Performance Standards (HSPS), and the FCR agency mission and vision.
- Perform recruitment and enrollment functions including program publicity and answering questions, assist all FCR families with the enrollment packet and reviewing the Parent Handbook to ensure all vacancies are filled as soon as possible within the HSPS 30 days.
- Engage in mutually respectful goaloriented partnerships with families by assisting them in identifying and reaching goals that promote children’s readiness for school and life, healthy parentchild relationships and family wellbeing and selfsufficiency documented through case management for approximately 35 families.
- Assess, document and share family strengths and needs related to safety, health, dental health, nutrition, mental health, parenting, housing, education, employment and financial stability per procedure.
- Coordinate with, and if needed, refer to other agencies to support families and to secure resources and provide crisis intervention services.
- Enhance parents’ (mother, father and/or legal guardian) awareness of, and engagement in, their role as the first and most important teachers of their children.
- To encourage parent participation, the FES will distribute necessary FCR program information (including but not limited to program flyers, parent training plans, school calendar, upcoming parent and Policy Council meetings) to all families.
- Offer and encourage home visits as needed to connect and complete all required paperwork with enrolled families while providing alternative meeting locations when home visits are not possible or not preferred by families.
- Collaborate with education staff and families to promote healthy parentteacher communication throughout the year and whenever concerns arise.
- Visit each classroom/center at least once weekly to facilitate collaboration with teaching staff, communication with parents, and to monitor the progress of children.
Qualifications and Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Prefer a BA in Social Work or a BA in a related Human Services field and at least oneyear case management experience with lowincome children/families (Two years’ experience preferred )
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish required
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to complete all documentation, communication and data entry requirements of the position
- Preemployment drug screening may be required
- Satisfactory reference check and NCDCDEE Qualification letter
