ABOUT FAMILIES in TRANSITION
Families in Transition was established in 1991 as a housing organization for low-income families. Since its humble beginnings with one building, it has expanded to 18 buildings of housing to become one of the largest affordable housing organizations in the state. In 2018, Families in Transition merged with New Horizons for New Hampshire, an organization which has served homeless individuals since 1973. Around this same time, Families in Transition merged with a substance use treatment program, now known as Willows Treatment Center.
Families in Transition is one of the largest homeless services organizations in New Hampshire with locations in Manchester and Concord. It provides innovative and effective interventions specifically designed to help individuals and families break the cycle of homelessness and lead healthy and successful lives. The organization’s belief is that having a home is a basic human right and is fundamental to becoming an engaged and contributing member of the community.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is an exciting and unique opportunity for the next Chief Programs Officer who will: continuing work to integrate and maximize impact; ensure programs are meeting compliance and regulation goals; expand on volunteer opportunities that exist within programs to support staff; and ensure we are providing the best services to our participants.
Along with the President & CEO, the CPO will be a key community leader, engaging in both active leadership on behalf of key issues and actions in New Hampshire as well as a thought leader regarding the critical needs reflected in those served by the organization.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Programs Officer will have strategic and operating responsibility specifically for the emergency shelter programs, housing programs, and substance use treatment programs. The CPO will participate in numerous community engagement opportunities such as the Manchester Continuum of Care, Manchester Outreach Committees, and various city/state initiatives, to support the mission. The CPO is a member of the senior leadership team and works closely with the Board of Directors on mission related committees. The CPO is responsible for overseeing the administration and supervision of programs, to include financial management and performance ($5 million of federal/state/city annually), approximately 50 staff members, and viability of each program.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Families in Transition seeks a proven, accomplished professional with a minimum of five - eight years’ leadership experience and with a passion to eliminate homelessness in New Hampshire. This individual will bring values-based leadership characterized by unwavering integrity, an ability to lead program staff, and execute strategic plans that impact human care.
We seek a leader who communicates the agency's mission with depth, enthusiasm, and commitment. The ability to relate to and connect with a wide variety of constituents is essential. The candidate will be able to establish strong working relationships with service providers, staff and volunteers, and program participants- people with lived experience of homelessness.
Proven personal success in managing a large staff team is a key requirement. Experience working in affordable housing or working with HUD will be extremely valuable. Similarly, specific experience in homeless services is preferred but not required. At a minimum, an affinity for the creation and delivery of human services to individuals, families and children must be evident through previous professional or volunteer experiences.
The successful candidate will have well-honed skills in building relationships, financial management, and operations management of a similarly sized organization and will have been a catalyst in fulfilling an agency’s vision. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of successfully managing large, complex budgets, and agreements with municipal, state, and federal agencies.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to build and nurture a positive culture that is grounded in a shared vision, vibrant in teamwork and supported by mutual respect and an unrelenting pursuit of quality is a must. A proven ability to hire, coach, lead and inspire employees as an effective team is a must. High integrity, empathy, self-awareness and sound judgment are essential to success in this role.
The successful candidate will possess a high level of oral, written, mediation, partnership, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively work with a broad range of individuals and organizations including Board members, professional colleagues, public officials and community partners, as well as the media. This candidate will build bridges of support for the organization; he/she/they will have extensive experience working in a collaborative environment with leaders across sectors to envision and implement a systemic approach to combatting poverty and homelessness.
Salary range for this position is $110,000 - $125,000 annually.

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s Level in related professional degree (i.e. social work, addiction, psychology, community mental health, etc.)
- 5 – 8 years of professional experience in senior leadership/administrative capacity
- Strong computer abilities and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc)
- Board of Mental Health or Licensing Board of Alcohol and Other Drug Professionals licensure – preferred
