Supervisor: Director of Programming and Program Manager
Hours: Part Time 18 hours / week on-going (with the option to up hours to 37.5 hours / week x 6 to 7 weeks for FACT’s Summer Camp) – Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $16-18 / hour (Depending on Experience)
The mission of FACT is to improve the quality of life for individuals with autism and their families in the greater Tidewater Virginia area. FACT provides social and recreational programs that enhance social and communication skills and promote community integration within our Autism community.
Responsibilities:
Our FACT Ambassadors will assist the Program Manager / Program Director in supporting the mission of FACT by providing support throughout FACT’s social and recreational programs. FACT Ambassadors will be responsible for providing a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment while following guidelines set forth by FACT’s Staff Handbook. The main responsibilities of the FACT Ambassador will fall into the category of Year-Round Programming.
Year- Round Programming responsibilities include:
- Assisting in planning, preparation, and execution of programs
- Addressing and acting on immediate behavioral needs of the participants
- Follow behavioral plans / advice set and/or given from supervisory staff.
- Providing support (sometimes 1:1) to all individuals with ASD (levels 1, 2, and 3)
- Toileting (all ages- to include adults)
- Changing (all ages- to include adults)
- Cleaning (materials, areas, sanitizing, etc.)
- While in transit to and from the FACT Autism Resource Center
- Standing for long periods of time
Summer Camp responsibilities include:
- Prepping materials for the following camp sessions, shuttling campers and staff in company vehicles, processing paperwork for camper registration, welcome phone calls to new campers, etc.
- Addressing and acting on immediate behavioral needs of the participants
- Follow behavioral plans / advice set and/or given from supervisory staff.
- Providing support (sometimes 1:1) to all individuals with ASD (levels 1,2, and 3)
- Toileting (all ages- to include adults)
- Changing (all ages- to include adults)
- Cleaning (materials, areas, sanitizing, etc.)
- Standing for long periods of time
- While in transit to and from the FACT Autism Resource Center
- Swimming and assisting individuals with ASD in and out of the water to complete daily field trip activities.
- If opting to up hours to 37.5 hours weekly for Summer Camp – duties would include that of Camp Staff (as put forth in our Staff Handbook). Like obligations as listed above include direct supervision of a camper with ASD for the duration of time during the camp day (8:10-3:30pm).
Working Conditions:
Our FACT Ambassadors will be expected to be in the office on a regular basis during the week. Initially, this position will be for approximately 18 hours per week but there will likely be weeks where the FACT Ambassador will have the opportunity to work more than 18 hours if approved beforehand. This is an in-person position, and any potential overtime must be approved by the Program Director.
Professional Development:
FACT highly values investing in its employees . Our FACT Ambassadors are expected to maintain CPR/ AED, First Aid, MAT, and other protective measure training(s) while employed with FACT. Approved opportunities will be paid for at FACT’s expense.
Skills and Qualifications:
- The selected candidate(s) must understand FACT’s mission and the population we serve. The Ambassador must remain understanding, compassionate, and respectful with all
- Must hold, at minimum, a High School Diploma
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences (will be interacting with community members, participants, families, other organizations / businesses, volunteers, etc.)
- Ability to be flexible, adapt, and take initiative when / where needed.
- Required to maintain communication with supervisory staff via text / email.
- Experience working with individuals with ASD is not necessary but highly preferred.
