Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Medical Billing Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding patient diagnoses and procedures, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and managing medical billing processes. The job will also include other computerized work such as assisting with communicating with patients via the online scheduling app, scheduling new patients, and verifying insurances. This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of patient records and facilitating timely reimbursement for services rendered.
Duties
- Communicating with people on the phone and scheduling new patient appointments.
- Checking patient insurance benefits.
- Sending in and confirming prior authorization for certain insurances.
- Process medical billing claims to insurance companies and patients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and billing practices.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses and procedures for accurate coding.
- Handle medical collections by following up on unpaid claims and resolving billing discrepancies.
- Ensure the confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Utilize various medical records systems to input data accurately and efficiently.
- Communicate with patients occasionally regarding their appointments and insurance.
- Filing and computer work.
- Other occasional chiropractic assistant tasks depending on office demand.
Qualifications
- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy in coding and billing tasks.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with healthcare professionals, patients, and insurance representatives.
- Certification in Medical Billing and Coding (CPC, CCA, or equivalent) is preferred but not required.
