What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Abuse Prevention Advocate position at Family Crisis Center, Inc?
Purpose: The Child Abuse Prevention Advocate works in conjunction with Barton County Health Department Social Worker to enhance case management and parenting classes to families in Barton County. They will provide awareness and education about all aspects of child abuse and ways to connect with children ages 0-5. The Conscious Discipline curriculum will be used to teach and model these skills. We hope to promote trust and communication during crisis, as well as be able to provide supportive services to help families stabilize their lives after trauma has occurred. The Child Abuse Prevention Advocate facilitates community engagement and education through partnership with the BCHD.
RESPONSIBILITIES INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
A. Responsible for creating a culture of empowerment and trauma-informed service delivery.
B. Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of resources and services available in the communities served to assist survivors.
C. Responsible to network with medical professionals, court officers, school personnel, law enforcement, clergy, and other professionals to encourage referrals.
D. Responsible for facilitating community awareness and education, while creating community networks
E. Responsible for coordinating with GBHD social worker to maintain and complete grant goals.
F. Responsible for teaching Conscious Discipline curriculum to parents referred.
G. Responsible for maintaining contact with the school districts, daycares, and social service agencies to gain knowledge of families in need.
H. Input and track all families in the DAISY system
I. Assist with any other duties and attend meetings as requested by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
· Higher education preferred. High school degree or GED equivalent required.
· Experience in child abuse, domestic violence or sexual assault field, volunteer experience, or related experience is suggested.
· Clear understanding of confidentiality.
· Ability to work independently and as a team.
· Knowledge and understanding of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault issues and trends.
· Knowledge of child development, parenting skills, parent/child bonding, and engaging children through activities individually and as a group.
· Knowledge of service area resources preferred.
· Knowledge of computer/internet programs to include Word, Excel, Outlook and Google.
· Express commitment to the empowerment of women and children.
· Experience working with diverse people and groups.
· Experience maintaining personal/professional boundaries and managing stress constructively.
· Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to handle multiple priorities.
· Manage and resolve conflict.
· Excellent initiative, integrity, and strong sense of professionalism.
· Possess valid Kansas driver’s license, clean driving record, access to reliable transportation, & proof of current liability insurance.

WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week, non-exempt
Varied work schedule to accommodate activities.
