Program Manager Job Description
Job Title: Violence Intervention Program Manager
The goal of the City of Montgomery’s Community Violence Intervention (CVI) initiative is to significantly reduce fatal and non-fatal shootings in the city. This will be accomplished by effectively engaging the individuals in the community with high propensity to be involved in gun violence. Using a public health approach, the violence intervention team will conduct proactive outreach to these individuals and provide intervention, mediation, and case management services. The Violence Intervention Program Manager is responsible for the overall management of the violence intervention team: they will run the internal daily operations of the program and also engage with city officials, hospital officials, and other community partners. As this is a new initiative, the Program Manager will work closely with the city’s designation training and technical assistance partner in the design and development of the intervention program and collaborate in the gradual development of a citywide violence intervention and prevention ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Team Management
- Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the violence intervention team
- Work with the technical assistance provider and organizational leaders to hire violence intervention team members (supervisors, violence interventionists, office staff, etc.).
- Implement nationally-recognized best practices in community violence intervention as taught in management and violence intervention trainings
- Conduct daily check-ins with intervention team (either virtually or in person)
- Conduct at least one weekly full staff meeting to review data, discuss pending issues, and build team culture
- Conduct weekly one-to-one meetings with direct reports
- Supervise and evaluate team members and ensure a culture of integrity and accountability
- Provide rapid response to shooting incidents and lead team in moments of crisis
Program Monitoring
- Regularly review shooting data, street and hospital intervention data, and caseload management data
- Ensure that intervention team is using data to inform their work and is reliably recording their intervention data
- Complete monthly reports related to program progress (which include intervention data, shooting data, and other indicators of progress or challenge)
- Work in collaboration with training and technical assistance provider to assess program progress, troubleshoot problems, and make needed program adjustments
Community Engagement
- Serve as liaisons with city officials, hospital officials, and other partner organizations
- Serve as an important public face of program (press, community events, public officials, etc.)
- Help educate the community about what community violence intervention is and how the program operates
Qualifications
Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent communication and people management skills
- High credibility and comfort operating in the initiative’s target neighborhoods
- Experience managing effective teams
- Experience working with individuals in crisis and with victims of violence
- Openness to professional learning and development
- Valid driver’s license, insurance, and good driving record
- No pending criminal cases; no prior convictions for domestic violence (within 10 years); no prior convictions for sexual assault or child abuse.
