Overview
Family Reading Partners is a non-profit organization based in Orange County, NC, dedicated to fostering early literacy by empowering parents to support their children’s learning through shared reading and meaningful conversations. Our Home Visiting Program supports families with children from birth to kindergarten, providing quarterly visits where children receive books and educational toys, and parents receive guidance on activities and best practices to promote language and literacy development. These efforts aim to foster a love of reading, interactive play, and meaningful family connections.
To further our mission and better serve Spanish-speaking families, we are seeking a bilingual Spanish-speaking Family Coordinator to enhance our home visiting program and provide inclusive services tailored to the needs of our Spanish-speaking families.
Key Responsibilities:
Early Literacy Mentor & Home Visitor:
- Conduct home visits to Spanish-speaking families to provide guidance and support around early literacy practices, with a focus on shared reading and language development.
- Model effective literacy strategies and reading techniques for parents and caregivers, promoting a love for reading and learning in young children from birth to kindergarten.
- Share culturally relevant books and materials to encourage daily reading routines at home.
Family Support and Engagement:
- Assist with the referral process by conducting intake interviews with potential program participants in both English and Spanish.
- Ensure intake documentation is accurate and complete, and follow up as needed to support enrollment.
- Maintain regular contact with enrolled families to provide ongoing support, share relevant resources, answer questions, and offer guidance as needed.
- Serve as a liaison between program participants, staff, and volunteers, helping to build trust and ensure clear, culturally responsive communication.
- Ensure that communication and support services are inclusive, respectful, and responsive to the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of participating families.
- Collect relevant program participation data including demographic information, surveys, assessments, and feedback for grant reporting and programmatic improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
- Experience working in early childhood education, social work, literacy programs, or related fields.
- Ability to engage and connect with young children and their families.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of early literacy development and best practices.
- Experience working with diverse communities and understanding cultural sensitivities.
- Proficiency in using digital tools for communication and record-keeping.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
