Job Title: Bilingual Family Social Worker
Department: Division of Children and Families
Classification: Exempt
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Reports To: Family Services Coordinator
Salary Range: $32,000 - $40,000 annually
Function:
The Bilingual Social Worker provides comprehensive case management and family support services to culturally and linguistically diverse families enrolled in the program, with a particular focus on supporting Haitian/Creole and Hispanic/Latino families. This role focuses on strengthening family well-being, promoting child development, and ensuring access to community resources through advocacy and direct intervention.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling or Human Services field with at least 3 years of progressive experience working with economically disadvantaged families.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Translate all written program materials from English to Spanish and/or Haitian Creole.
- Provide interpretation services for contacts between families and staff.
- Assist family services and teaching staff in communicating with Haitian/Creole and Hispanic/Latino children and families.
- Assist in translating classroom labels and materials from English to Spanish and Creole.
- Serve as a facilitator for the Haitian and Latino Parent Support Group.
- Provide assistance to Haitian and Latino families when there is a need for additional services.
- Provide family support and family engagement services for assigned families.
- Conduct intake assessments to identify family strengths, needs, and goals.
- Develop and implement individualized family partnership agreements.
- Connect families with resources such as housing, healthcare, employment, and mental health services.
- Provide culturally competent services to Haitian/Creole and Hispanic/Latino families, including assistance with language barriers and navigating social services.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to support children’s social-emotional development.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with program and funding requirements.
- Conduct home visits as needed to assess family environments and provide support.
- Assist with translating forms, documents, and other materials to ensure accessibility for non-English-speaking families.
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and agency policies.
- All other duties as assigned by the Family Services/ERSEA Manager.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to provide empathic services
- Ability to relate to families served, good problem-solving skills
- Willingness and comfort in providing home visitation services
- Valid driver’s license
Physical, Mental and/or Visual Demands
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time throughout the day.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Must be able to bend and stoop.
- Must be able to walk for extended periods throughout the day for monitoring.
- Mental and visual concentration required for preparing and analyzing data using a computer.
