What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Development Specialist position at Family Resources?
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and community-minded Family Development Specialist to engage and support families with children from birth to age 18 in the Hill District, Oakland, Uptown, and Downtown neighborhoods. This role is a blend of outreach, direct service, and family empowerment—connecting parents to resources, center-based programming, and leadership opportunities while delivering developmental supports using evidence-based models like Nurturing Parenting and Parents as Teachers (PAT).
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit families for center enrollment and promote the active involvement of fathers within the service communities
- Maintain caseload/contact levels in accordance with program expectations
- Provide direct service to families, including developmental screenings, monthly home visits (if applicable), and center-based engagement
- Coordinate initiatives such as Beverly’s Birthdays, Diaper Bank, Year of Cheer, and the family Newsletter
- Take a leadership role in Parent Advisory Council (PAC), Community Voices, and other parent leadership programs
- Act as a liaison and advocate for families by connecting them to appropriate community resources and services
- Maintain awareness of local community events and facilitate center participation and collaboration with community providers
- Complete all required documentation and communicate effectively with supervisors regarding timelines, feedback, and emerging family needs
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in social work, education, child development, or related field
- Demonstrated understanding of the Nurturing Parenting Program values and constructs
- Ability to co-facilitate Nurturing Parenting groups and deliver program content in-home and in group settings
- Experience using the Ages and Stages Developmental Assessment and making appropriate Early Intervention referrals
- Familiarity with the Parents as Teachers (PAT) model is a plus
- Reliable transportation and a valid Driver’s License
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends based on program and family needs

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Evenings as needed
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
