SUMMARY
Family Service League is seeking a per-diem Recreational Aide for the RECESS Program at the Riverhead Family Center. The Recreational Aide will assist in providing therapeutic recreation to children ages 7-14. The Recreational Aide will be responsible for providing therapeutically appropriate activities for the children, offering individual support, and accompanying the driver for pickups and drop offs. RECESS operates for 26 sessions per year on Saturdays.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Recreational Aide will accompany the transportation provider to pick up all confirmed participants at their homes.
- Engaging with children during program.
- Assisting in the planning, implementation and evaluation of activities that are therapeutically appropriate for participants.
- Relating positively with other staff, supervisor, participants, and families.
- The Recreational Aide will complete all required Agency training.
- Must be able to use video conferencing.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
Must have at least 1 year experience working with children diagnosed with serious emotional disturbances, as well as knowledge of child development and emotional disorders presenting in children.
Candidate must have excellent engagement and communication skills and must enjoy working with children.
Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication skills required.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
Valid and clean NYS Driver's License required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically capable of getting on and off passenger van that is used for pickups and drop offs.
