SUMMARY
Family Service League is seeking a per-diem Recreational Aide for RECESS, a Saturday therapeutic recreation program for children (ages 7-14) with serious emotional disturbances. The Recreational Aide will provide support during group interventions, education, and skill building. RECESS is a program that helps children socialize in an age-appropriate environment to encourage impulse control, socialization skills, motor coordination, and tolerance for frustration. RECESS operates for 26 sessions per year in person.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Recreational Aide will accompany the transportation provider to pick up all confirmed participants at their homes.
- Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating activities that are therapeutically appropriate for participants.
- Engage with the children during the program.
- The Recreational Aide will have a positive attitude with other staff, supervisors, participants, and families.
- Participate in all training and staff development in person and/or virtually.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth who have diagnoses of serious emotional disturbances required.
Knowledge of child development and emotional disorders that are presented in children preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
Valid NYS Driver’s License required.
