We are seeking a part-time Advocate to join our team at a homeless shelter in Smithtown. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of families and their children, enforcing shelter rules, completing intake consent forms, and conducting curfew checks. This role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
The Responsibilities of this position include:
- Using good judgment and remaining calm in stressful situations;
- Handling special projects and tasks as assigned;
- Conducting intakes for new clients and providing ongoing support and counseling to help them achieve their goals;
- Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with clients and staff members;
- Working cooperatively to set goals, resolve problems, and enhance the program;
- Providing conflict resolution strategies and supporting clients in times of need;
- Conducting regular perimeter checks to ensure the safety of all individuals on site;
- Issuing violations for breaking rules and regulations;
- Opening locker and shed access for clients;
- Overseeing and documenting clients while they self-administer medication;
- Serving meals and supervising bedtime routines;
- Documenting routine bed and bathroom checks to ensure safety;
- Accessing donation closets for clothing as needed;
- Overseeing shower times and distributing toiletries;
- Reporting and documenting incidents with accuracy and detail;
- Transporting clients as needed;
- Performing all other duties assigned by management.
