Summary: Parent-Educators follow evidence-supported program models designed to increase child safety, wellness, and healthy development. They meet parents where they are and teach them tools and skills to build supportive relationships and help their children.
Role Assignment: The Bilingual Parent Educator will lead bilingual (English/Spanish) evidence-based parenting groups and provide one-on-one support for families. Classes may take place on-site, via Zoom, or in the family’s home. The Parent Educator will work closely with the In-Home Parenting (IHP) team to organize and participate in workshops, community events, food distributions, and diaper distributions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial client interviews, explain the program, and complete assessments and service plans.
- Lead bilingual (English/Spanish) evidence-based parenting classes in group and individual formats, on-site, via Zoom, or in family homes.
- Offer direct training in home safety, child health, and effective parent-child interactions.
- Collaborate with the In-Home Parenting (IHP) team to organize and participate in community workshops, events, and food/diaper distributions.
- Serve as the primary contact at the Family Center, greeting families and providing information to the public.
- Complete and maintain all records and documentation for client files, including statistical reports and client management database entries.
- Link clients to other community services for additional or ongoing support.
- Adhere to HIPAA, confidentiality, and agency database policies.
- Perform physical duties as required for events, including lifting up to 25 pounds and working outdoors during all seasons.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain professionalism, boundaries, and confidentiality.
- Actively participate in events, including setup and takedown.
- Attend relevant training to stay current on evidence-based practices and culturally competent service delivery.
- Report suspected child abuse/endangerment per state law.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred; or one year of direct client service experience with an Associate’s degree. Alternatively, a H.S. Diploma and three years of relevant experience in place of a degree.
- Experience: Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Previous experience in client services, social work, or related fields. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience. Knowledge of community resources and social services. Knowledge of general interviewing practices and/or techniques; knowledge of social work and counseling practices and techniques, including crisis prevention and intervention. Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite & ability to work on online platforms. Must demonstrate compassion, especially when clients are experiencing complex issues or in crisis. Must demonstrate cultural competence, to understand and value clients’ unique values and perspectives.
- Transportation: This role requires a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance as driving is an essential function of the position. Responsibilities include regular travel and occasional client transport. To qualify for mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use, a valid California driver’s license and current auto insurance must be maintained.
Additional Requirement: Must receive clearance from the Department of Justice Criminal Record Offender Information database and become Trust Line certified. Must be at least 21 years of age as a grant requirement.
Physical Demands & Working Environment:
Environment: Standard office and client residence setting; weekly travel from site to site; occasional exposure to the sun, moderate heat, noise, dust, and fumes; stressful calls/situations. Requires the kind of teamwork, supervision, and personal interaction, that cannot be had in a home office situation; therefore, regular and predictable on-site attendance is a job requirement.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting and field environment including travel to various locations; sitting for prolonged periods; standing for brief periods; climbing stairs; operate modern office equipment. Work requires lifting, stooping, bending, stretching, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, and other physical exertion. Lift to 25 lbs.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate the equipment.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
