Position Title: Navigation and Day Room Support Specialist

Position Summary
The Navigation and Day Room Support Specialist is a vital member of the Veteran Resource Center (VRC), a program of Family Support Services. This position ensures that the day room and navigation center are welcoming, accessible, and fully supported during business hours. The specialist will engage directly with veterans and their families, provide peer support, assist with resource navigation, and maintain a safe, hospitable environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact in the navigation center/day room during operating hours to ensure a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for veterans and their families.
- Greet and engage visitors, providing peer support and connecting them to appropriate resources or navigation team members.
- Facilitate a positive peer-support environment where veterans can connect with each other and share lived experiences.
- Maintain knowledge of local and regional resources available to veterans and their families, including housing, mental health services, employment opportunities, and other support programs.
- Collaborate with the navigation team to ensure seamless delivery of services, including coordinating with staff who are in sessions or off-site.
- Assist in managing donations, including accepting, organizing, and distributing items as needed (requires ability to lift up to 25 lbs).
- Monitor the day room to ensure a clean, safe, and functional space for clients and visitors.
- Assist with data collection and documentation to support program reporting and evaluation efforts.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of program initiatives and events designed to benefit veterans and their families.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the VRC’s mission.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Veteran status or demonstrated connection to military service through shared lived experience.
- Experience in customer service or similar roles, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity with local and regional resources for veterans, including housing, employment, and mental health services.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask effectively, and maintain a calm demeanor under pressure.
- Proficient in basic computer skills, including data entry and use of software for tracking and reporting.
- Ability to move around the space comfortably and lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in peer support or navigation services.
- Background in social services or community engagement, particularly with underserved populations.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
- Organizational skills to manage the day room and coordinate resources effectively.
Work Environment
The Navigation and Day Room Support Specialist will primarily work within the Veteran Resource Center’s Day room and navigation center, located in the Family Support Services main building. This position requires active engagement with visitors, staff, and community partners to foster a supportive and resourceful environment for veterans and their families.
